Beauty Of The Dandelion

I'm sure these sprung up over night.... we have about 10-15 on the grass this year... I like the flowers and seed heads but not the way they take over.

These little guys are so full of light. I am a fan of yellow, so I love them in the lawn.

Tom, that is a wonderful banner!

They are great for photography, but I dislike them in the lawn. We had a bunch this year and the lawn guy was here today for another treatment.

Dandelions. The people who brought the dandelion seed over from Europe must have held them in high esteem. And they surely considered them more than a weed. Here, not many people know they are also good to eat as greens if you get the leaves before they bloom, otherwise the leaves are bitter. And we never did it but lots of people use the blossom to make wine. Dandelion wine. I liked the leaves made into greens with bits of bacon meat stirred in and vinegar. Wow. Can't get much better than that.

Love the dandelions. They are not only beautiful they are food. Flowers make wine, leaves in the salad and roots can be cooked and eaten. They are free for the picking.

Your photographs show them as being such pretty flowers. I'm sorry to say that we dig ours up:(

EXCELLENT Series! I think the dandelions get a bad name as a weed over here is ths US but they are certainly LOVELY wildflowers to me :)
