Victorian humour ?

Cheethams Park & Nature Reserve
Stalybridge

Photobucket

I have seen these many times in the past, and I had wondered what the inscriptions might mean. I took this set of pictures knowing I'd show them here on my blog once I found out what was wrote on them..

Photobucket
ROMAE
AETERNAE
ET
FORTVNAE
REDVCI

I googled the above and came up with the following
To Fortune, who had brought him back to Eternal Roma

Photobucket

So I thought well this one will soon be solved... and I googled it as well....

ARVB

BINGSTO

NEFORAS

SES

Nothing at all, did not find anything..... but as I was typing it in I noticed something and realised what it said.... have ago, see if you can come up with it.

Photobucket

I will tell you what it says tomorrow if no body comes up with it...
ENJOY

Ha Ha - I know.
Did you do that yourself Tom?

Hi Kaz
I have seen these loads of times and never noticed it before... I have since tried to find out about the posts, or inscription but drew a blank..... I laughed at this when I realised what it says. I googled that and it came up with an inscriptions from a 'Riddle Stone' from down south somewhere...

I am not sure what it says. I tried several and found nothing. I never even found your Riddle Stone.

I'll be back, Tom. I hope the back of my brain works on this today and can come up with a little something.

"A rubbing stone for asses"

RuneE got it. I saw the word stone but forgot the "V" is actually a "U" so I missed it.

Kaz was the first, and then Rune.... Those Victorians must have had a good laugh at this.

I love it! It's always good to start the day with a good laugh. :)

That's a nice reflection too.

Love this one, Tom! And I always thought those Victorians were so straight laced!

I looked at it until I got it only to find everyone else had too. :)
I got here to late.
It would have been hard but you said you noticed it typing so I put it in a line.
Thanks for the fun post Tom!

I forgot to say what a neat reflection!

We took a photo this morning in Cheethams Park of the stones thinking the phrases were Latin. After using a Translator app and having no luck we of course went on Google and here we are. Putting all the letters in a line and realising what the last five words were we appreciated the humour but still don’t know what the DOM means. Can anyone enlighten us please??
